Ulster Media Show ‘09 - Getting started in the media workshops and public exhibition

Ulster Media ShowFormer BBC correspondent Denis Murray will be among the presenters at free workshops on 6 June aimed at students interested in a career in media.

The presentations are part of the inaugural Ulster Media Show which is a two-day event showcasing Northern Ireland’s best emerging creative media talent.

Other presenters include Mairead Regan, group human resources director, UTV, on radio and television careers and Davy Sims, formerly head of BBC NI Interactive.

The workshop will run from 10am to noon in the Conor Lecture Theatre in the University of Ulster’s York Street campus in Belfast city centre on Saturday 6 June 2009. Admission is free, but booking is required. Email: enquiries@ulstermediashow.com Tel: 028 7032 4449.

There will also be a public exhibition of the best student work in film, television, radio and interactive produced by students from courses in University of Ulster and three further education colleges that are part of the Northern Ireland Skillset Media Academy. The Skillset Media Academy is one of only 19 in the UK licensed as centres of excellence in creative media. It aims to bring international standards of media education to Northern Ireland to support the growth of its film, television and interactive media industries.

This runs from 9am to 2pm on Saturday, 6 June, 2009, on the first floor or the York Street campus. This event is supported by the University’s Cultural Development Support Scheme.

MEDIA ACADEMY AWARDS AND SHOWCASE: Friday 5 June 2009: 6.30pm-8pm: Showcase and awards for the best audio-visual work from students in the Northern Ireland Skillset Media Academy which comprises courses at University of Ulster, Belfast Metropolitan College, North West Regional College, Derry city and Southern Regional College. (Invite only). The Skillset Media Academy is one of only 19 in the UK licensed as centres of excellence in creative media. Kevin Jackson of BBC and Richard Williams, chief executive of Screen Northern Ireland, to present the awards.

PUBLIC EXHIBITION OF THE BEST STUDENT WORK: Saturday 6 June 2009: 9am-2pm, exhibition of the best student work in film, television, radio, documentary and interactive media from the Northern Ireland Skillset Media Academy. Admission free and open to the public.

GETTING INTO THE MEDIA WORKSHOPS: Saturday 6 June: 10-12pm.
